News and Events Green Ride 2008 The Green Ride was a great success! Held over Columbus Day Weekend, October 11-13, 2008, the ride once again treated bicyclists to an unforgettable trip along the Hudson River, up and over mountains, and through rolling farmland -- all while raising money for Black Rock Forest and its education program's. Last year's inaugural ride attracted 18 riders and raised nearly $50,000 for the Forest. Riders begin and their three-day, 260-mile journey at the Cloisters in upper Manhattan's Fort Tryon Park, travel to the Catskills and back, and spend both nights in the Black Rock Forest Lodge. The ride is fully supported, largely by volunteers who provide everything from signage, to cooking and cleaning, to entertainment. Participants commit to raising at least $1800 in contributions from friends and family; the Green Ride organizers provide guidance and support for doing this.
