Hudson River School of Art

This resource for the Hudson River Valley (hudsonriver.com) includes travel information and a section on art that contains links to drawings and paintings of the Hudson River School of Art Durand is not well represented but Church and Cropsey are.

This site (artarchive.com) contains a good collection of images from major painters (Bierstadt, Church, Cole, Durand, Heade, Inness, Kensett, Moran) which can be resized to fit the screen and enlarged to view details. Critical commentary is included. Research books are also thumbnailed here. For $50, schools can purchase two CDs of all the works on Artchive (some of which are Hudson River paintings) and also receive password access to the art without banners and ads.

There is not much text on this site (artlex.com) but it is a good source of images which can be enlarged — especially useful are those from the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art collection of Hudson River art  includes works by Durand and Cole. Once at the site, click American Painting and Sculpture and then search for Hudson River School.

This site (davisart.com) sells slides of art works. They have 131 images from the Hudson River School of Art which can be purchased at a reasonable price.

This is the site (thomascole.org) for Cedar Grove which was Cole’s home and is located in Catskill, NY.

This is the site (olana.org) for information about Frederick Church and Olana which is the home he built in Hudson, NY.
