Housing Options
Researchers visiting the Black Rock Forest have a variety of options for overnight stays.
- The Forest Lodge, located within the Forest adjacent to the Center for Science and Education, can house up to 60 visitors at a time. It includes 10 bedrooms of various sizes, a central commons area that serves as a dining area as well as a meeting space, a large kitchen, and full multimedia, internet, and video conferencing facilities. The cost is $25 per person per night for Consortium members.
- The Old Headquarters Building, located just outside the Forest, can house 16 people in four bedrooms and includes a full kitchen, 1 ½ baths, and a screened porch. The cost is $10 per person per night for Consortium members, with a $5 student rate available by request.
- The Stone House, a 3000-square-foot farmhouse, dating to 1834 and located in the center of the Forest, 2 miles from the Center for Science and Education, is primarily a site for educational group visits but occasionally serves as an overnight lodging facility, with five bunk beds (10 beds) and floor mats for at least a dozen more guests ($5 per person per night). It has no electricity or running water, but does have a kitchen with a propane stove, a barbecue pit, a well, port-a-potties, lanterns, and fireplaces. A minimal impact camping area is nearby.
- For other accommodations in the area, contact the Forest’s Administrative Assistant at 845-534-4517.
