Research at the Forest Research Symposia Since 1999, Black Rock Forest has held a research symposium every other year to highlight the scientific investigations taking place in the Forest and to give researchers the opportunity to learn about each other’s work. Fifth Black Rock Forest Research Symposium, June 25 & 26 2007The Fifth Research Symposium was a two-day event on June 25 and 26, with sessions from 9 AM to 4 PM each day. Cosponsored by the Palisades Interstate Park Commission and the US Forest Service, Northeastern Area State and Private Forestry, this year's Symposium included scientists working elsewhere in the Hudson Highlands as well as in the Forest itself. Topics covered in the Symposium included watershed studies, biological diversity, chemical cycling, invasive species, long-term biological studies, mapping and monitoring, and earth science and the carbon cycle. Abstracts are now available online, as is a detailed article about the Symposium, expanded from one that appears in the Fall 2007 issue of the Black Rock Forest News. Abstracts of Earlier SymposiaAbstracts from the first Research Symposium (held at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory) are not available, but abstracts from the second, third, and fourth symposia are available in the Proceedings files listed below.
