Glycerine Hollow
Glycerine Hollow is the name for the forested wetlands that lie in the bottom of the Cascade Brook watershed. The entire watershed has remained only lightly affected by human activities and comprises the Cascade Brook Ecological Reserve. Cascade Brook originates high on the south-facing slopes of Hill of Pines and runs through Glycerine Hollow, then over a large outcrop of granite bedrock at the base of the watershed. This is the location where the Cascade Brook Stream Station was constructed in 1995. The watershed represents one of the major locations for scientific research in the Forest, with continuous flow records, canopy access towers, and long-term research sites. |
