Hill of Pines
Hill of Pines is the name for the long east-west oriented ridge that divides the Upper Reservoir watershed to the north from the Cascade Brook watershed to the south. Access is relatively easy from the Forest entrance and Science Center area via either the Scenic or Hill of Pines trails. Outcrops of granite gneiss bedrock at the summit, particularly on the Scenic Trail, provide dramatic views to the south and west of the Cascade Brook watershed, Rattlesnake Mountain, Eagle Cliff ridge, and the Stone House area. White pines and pitch pines mixed with scrub oak along the summit ridge typify the distinctive plant community found at higher elevations in the forest. |
