We are inviting our Friends of the Forest to the second annual “Friends Only” event here at Black Rock Forest!

Meet the staff, talk with our scientists, and explore the beauty of BRF while hiking during peak leaf season. A series of short talks given by Consortium scientists will be available at different locations as you hike. This years theme will be Forest Ecology and will include details of research from CUNY, Columbia University, Riverdale Country School and others. Upon arrival every attendee will receive an outlined map to help guide them to our speaker locations and enjoy treats and donuts from Jones Farm! We will be hosting two separate start times to ensure all attendees are able to socially distance and have plenty of time to interact safely. Speakers will be stationed around the Forest including Mailley’s Mill Bridge, the Upper Reservoir and Aleck Meadow.

Instructions:  We recommend dressing in layers to account for varying temperatures throughout the day. Hiking boots are critical for wet/muddy trail conditions during the fall. Bring drinking water and a snack if desired, insect and tick repellent are recommended. An email will be sent to registered participants prior to the hike with parking information and additional arrival details.

This hike is free for Friends of the Forest (annual supporters). Space is limited to 25 registrants per session. This RSVP is for the 11am session. Please visit the Events page to register for the 10am session. A signed waiver is required. To become a Friend of the Forest please visit our donation page.

In the event of heavy rain this event will be held on Sunday, October 24th at the same times. Registrants will be contacted if the event is rescheduled.
