A “phenocam” is a digital camera set to take time-lapse pictures from a fixed location and field of view, specifically toward foliage. Attributes of these images can be used to generate quantitative measures of seasonal plant changes or “phenology”. Together with our weather datasets, data from the phenocam can be used to explore ecological phenomena, including seasonal changes over time, impacts of forest pests or disease, influence of extreme weather events, etc.
